The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has called for an emergency meeting of its members.

TheCable learnt the meeting may be over the ultimatum on strike issued by the association to the federal government.

NMA had issued the ultimatum to the federal government weeks after the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) went on strike.

The NMA had given the federal government a 21-day ultimatum to address the issues raised by the resident doctors, the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), and other affiliates.

In a notice seen by TheCable, the NMA said the meeting will take place on October 2, in Abuja.

“Notice is hereby given for an Emergency Delegates Meeting (EDM) of the Nigerian Medical Association,” the notice reads.

“This is sequel to the request by majority of our National Executive Council (NEC) members for a physical meeting instead of the earlier scheduled virtual meeting and taking into consideration the forthcoming NARD AGM and availability of Venue that can amply accommodate all delegates on the 2nd October, 2021.
