The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has threatened to penalise petrol marketers who hoard products.
The corporation also advised motorists and other petroleum products consumers not resort to panic buying, “as there is adequate supply of petroleum products nationwide”.
The fuel scarcity which is in its second week grew worse after the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) commenced a nationwide strike on Monday
The strike action they said, was as a result of the “unjust sack of some oil workers” by Neconde Energy Limited.

In a statement, Ndu Ughamadu, group general manager, NNPC, said the corporation is working to resolve the issues “laid bare” by industry unions.
“NNPC wishes to state that relevant government agencies are in consultation with industry unions to arrive at an amicable resolution of issues over which there are threats of industrial action,” the statement read.
“NNPC warns marketers not to hoard products as law enforcement agencies, working with industry regulators, have been detailed to take appropriate measures against any defaulter.”
