NNPC to publish financial transactions from September

Ibe Kachikwu, group managing director of the NNPC, has promised to make public the accounting system of the corporation from September.

Kachikwu also said he would soon start furnishing President Muhammadu Buhari with weekly reports of the corporation’s activities.

Ohi Alegbe, spokesman of the corporation, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.

The statement quoted Kachikwu as saying periodic publications of the corporation’s financial transaction would usher in a new dawn of transparency.

“I want transparency. Beginning from next month, I want to be able to publish what the corporation makes,” the statement read.

“I have told the president that as from next week, I will be sending him weekly reports.”

According to Alegbe, Kachikwu said the NNPC of his dream would be a corporation anchored on the foundation of transparency.

He was also said to have told the staff of the corporation to bring creative solutions to the challenges facing the oil firm and advised them not to obey any directive that runs contrary to the rules governing the system.

Kachikwu reportedly said he would assign auditors to do proper forensic audit with a view to revealing the full state of the corporation.

He was also said to have promised to revisit old processes that enhanced efficient operations and urged the staff to see themselves as the drivers of the changes required to bring about the new NNPC.

“You are the ones who have been around and who understand the system and so you are the ones who should drive the change,” he was quoted as saying.
