The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has asked the general public to be wary of filling stations imitating its retail outlets.

The corporation raised the alarm in a disclaimer signed by its management on Wednesday.

It said such petrol stations infringing on the NNPC retail brand are emerging in the south-west states of Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo.

“The filling stations which are allegedly affiliated to the NNPC Cooperative Multipurpose Society (NNPC CMS) are branded with similar colours as NNPC Retail Limited outlets with “NNPC” boldly displayed on their canopies and totems which could deceive unsuspecting members of the public,” the disclaimer read.

“The stations carry the NNPC letterings and colours in a bid to imitate NNPC Retail Limited.”

The corporation said NNPC Retail Limited is the only subsidiary of the NNPC authorised to carry out the retailing of petroleum products in retail filling stations.

It warned that NNPC Cooperative Multipurpose Society (CMS) does not represent NNPC or its subsidiary, the NNPC Retail Limited.

“The Nigerian consumers and the public should be wary of any station with the trademark NNPC CMS as it does not, in any way, represent NNPC Retail Limited or NNPC. We cannot guarantee the premium quality and pump integrity for which the NNPC brand is known,” the statement added.

“That for the avoidance of doubt, the NNPC Retail Limited brand has the “NNPC” written on the canopy and totem of its outlets in green colour and there is no ‘CMS’ written anywhere.”
