Fire guts Emir Sanusi’s palace in Kano

A section of the palace of Muhammadu Sanusi ll, the Emir of Kano, has been reportedly set on fire by suspected arsonists.

Munir Bayero, chief of staff to the Emir, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.

Bayero said the fire gutted the palace at Kofar Kudu in Gidan Rumfa, adding that no casualties were recorded as the damage was “minimal”.

Sanusi was dethroned as Emir of Kano by Abdullahi Ganduje, the former governor of the state, over alleged “total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the governor”.

He was recently reinstated as the Emir by the current administration after a Kano State Emirate Council bill was amended.

The five Kano emirates formed by the previous administration were also dissolved.

“It is hereby notified that on Saturday 13th July, 2024 morning, a fire incident occurred at the outer court of His Highness’ Palace, Kofar Kudu,” the statement reads.

“Fortunately, there were no casualties, and the damage was minimal. The palace is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of the palace and its occupants.

“We are also investigating the cause of the fire and taking steps to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. Allah Ya bamu lafiya da zaman Lafiya.”
