North-west governors unite to address insecurity, improve agriculture

Governors from the north-west have resolved to work together to address the challenge of insecurity and improve agriculture in the region.

The governors made the resolution during a strategic meeting held on Tuesday at the Katsina state government house.

The meeting was attended by Dikko Radda,  governor of Katsina; Abba Yusuf of Kano, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara; Kauran Gwandu of Kebbi; Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto; and Aminu Usman, deputy governor of Jigawa state.

In a statement issued by Sanusi Tofa, chief press secretary to Radda, the governors said working together is for the common good of the region.

The governors said they all agreed to work together to improve the agricultural sector through a strategic value chain development and access to inputs and commodity markets.

They also agreed to chart a way for economic prosperity of the region through an holistic approach to inter-states modalities by leveraging on natural, physical and human resources of their states.

The statement quoted Abba Yusuf,  governor of  Kano, as appreciating President Bola Tinubu for the hydropower power project in north-western states.

“We want to use this opportunity to appreciate Mr. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his intervention on Hydropower project to northwestern states with a sole aim of boosting their economy and create additional jobs for the teeming population,” Yusuf said.
