Governors in the north-west on Monday gathered in Kaduna state to discuss banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities that have ravaged the zone.

The town hall meeting was organised by the office of the national security adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno.

Speaking at the event, Aminu Masari, Katsina governor, said he and his colleagues are exploring all available means to ensure that lives and property are protected in the zone.

Masari said it is the responsibility of the governors to ensure that everyone is safe and there is peace and stability.

“Everybody must be on the same page. We must go back to our communities, build community relationships and restore what was lost,” the former speaker of the house of representatives said.

“Ten years ago, the situation was not as bad as it is today, now communal life has broken down.”

On his part, Simon Lalong, Plateau governor and chairman of the Northern Governors Forum (NGF), urged all citizens to live in peace.

“Today, on behalf of northern governors, I welcome the new service chiefs while commending those who did their best and also prayed to see the end of the insecurity in Nigeria,” Lalong said.

Also speaking, Nasir el-Rufai, Kaduna governor, noted that the clashes in the south-west have raised tension and agitation across the country.

“All of us governors are going round, talking with stakeholders to calm people down,” el-Rufai said.

The governor said security should be the number one priority of the government and a collective responsibility of everyone.
