NPFL: Crowd violence mars Gombe, Rangers 6-goal thriller

Enugu Rangers scored a last-gasp goal to record a 3-3 away draw with Gombe United in a rescheduled week 19 game in the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL).

The thrilling game was dramatic both on and off the pitch.

It was marred by crowd violence and questionable officiating with the hosts’ fans resulting to stoning the referee, Benjamin Odey, while Rangers manager got injured.

Irate fans also attacked Gombe goalkeeper, Emmanuel Fabiyi, for conceding the last minute goal.

Obinna Nwobodo got Rangers ahead in the 12th minute and made it two in the 58th minute.

Oladapo scored Gombe’s first goal from a goal mouth scramble in the 63rd minute.

Two minutes after his opener for Gombe, he scored again – a contentious penalty kick.

Abdullahi scored in the 92nd minute and while the home side seemed to be coasting to victory, Osas Okoro scored in the 95th minute for Rangers to share the spoils.

The draw moved Rangers to 16th in the league table with 23 points, while Gombe, also on 23 points, moved up from 18th to 17th position.
