Ahmed Musa, Super Eagle winger, put on a great display as Kano Pillars shocked Rangers International, reigning NPFL champions, 4-3 in Enugu on Wednesday.

The winger was at his maverick best, assisting three goals and scoring another while wreaking havoc at Rangers’ Cathedral stadium in the seven-goal thriller. Rabiu Ali, another NPFL veteran scored twice for Pillars.

Kano Pillars raced to a four-goal lead in the first half and while Rangers pulled three goals back in the second half, they ultimately succumbed to their first home defeat in 31 home league matches — since a 2-0 loss to Abia Warriors in January 2023.

Musa won the first penalty when his cross was handled in the box, allowing Ali to convert the opener on 15 minutes. Zulkifilu Rabiu doubled the lead on 28 minutes before Musa was brought down for Ali to complete his brace with another penalty on 37 minutes.

Musa then capped a majestic half for himself and Pillars with a brilliant solo goal on the stroke of halftime. The former Leicester City winger’s tricky footwork helped him past a defender as he dribbled the goalkeeper before slotting into an unguarded net.

Rangers started the second half with a goal two minutes by Isaac Saviour, who also halved the deficit on 59 minutes to complete his brace. Silas Nenrot made it 4-3 in the 90th minute.

Kano Pillars and Rangers are both on 10 points after seven matches. However, Kano Pillars are fourth ahead of their hosts due to a better head-to-head record.
