NPFL: Plateau thrash Gombe 5-1 as MFM return to winning ways

Plateau United defeated Gombe United 5-1 on Sunday to maintain the top spot of the Nigeria Professional Football League table.

Peter Eneji’s brace from the spot kick and a goal each from Elisha Gombe, Kabiru Umar and Emeka Umeh sealed the win for United.

Mannir Ubale scored Gombe’s only goal.

Plateau United are five points clear at the top with 45 points.

Defending champions Rangers ended their run of three games without a victory courtesy of Bright Silas’ goal against Akwa United.

El Kanemi lost 3-0 to Katsina United via a brace from Musa Suleiman and the third from Obinna Eleje.

In Calabar, MfonUdoh’s brace helped Enyimba defeat Abia Warriors 2-1 to climb to third on the NPFL table.

Monday Shishinma’s 21st-minute goal was the difference between MFM FC and the struggling Shooting Stars at the Agege Stadium in Lagos.

MFM, who had failed to win any of their last four matches, are now second in the league with 40 points while Shooting Stars have dropped to the bottom.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah lost 2-1 to Rivers United in Port Harcourt while Kano Pillars defeated Sunshine Stars 3-1 at the Sanni Abacha Stadium.

In other results, Remo beat Nasarawa United 1-0, Wikki Tourists overcame visiting Niger Tornadoes 3-1 while 10-man Lobi lost 1-0 away to ABS of Ilorin.
