Rivers United returned to the top of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) following a 1-0 win over Kano Pillars at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
Aniekeme Okon scored the only goal of the encounter in the first half as Rivers United silenced the visitors’ fearsome attacking duo of Rabiu Ali and Ahmed Musa, Super Eagles captain.
Victory for Rivers United extends their unbeaten run to four matches, while defeat snapped Kano Pillars’ four-match unbeaten streak, although they are winless in three matches.
The Kano boys also failed to score in an NPFL match for the first time in five matches.
