The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has suspended the Warri-Itakpe train service after a “minor derailment”.
The incident reportedly occurred by 10pm on Sunday night at the Okpara station in the Ethiope East LGA of Delta state, leaving passengers stranded overnight.
A statement on Monday by Yakub Mahmood, NRC’s deputy director of public relations, said operations will resume on Monday afternoon.
He said engineers have been mobilised to ensure the track is restored.

“The management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) hereby informs the general public, especially our valued passengers that ply the Warri-Itakpe route, that following the minor derailment yesterday at the Okpara station, the service will resume shortly as our team of Engineers are at the site of the accident to ensure the track is restored anytime soon,” the statement reads.
“However Itakpe-Warri (ujewu) trains will resume as scheduled in the afternoon today.”
In July, NRC suspended train operations along the same route due to a derailment at Abraka railway station.
