The National Sports Commission (NSC) has unveiled plans to establish a training fund for “exceptional athletes” to help them prepare for major competitions.
Bukola Olopade, NSC director-general, spoke on Tuesday during a meeting with presidents and secretaries of various sports federations in Abuja.
He said the initiative will be launched in February 2025 and will see Nigerian athletes get paid before major competitions.
“The days of athletes getting training grants at competition venues are gone,” Olopade said.
