NSCDC arrests five suspects in Kano for ‘vandalism, theft’

The Kano command of the Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says its operatives have arrested five suspects over alleged vandalism and theft.

Mohammad Lawal-Falala, the NSCDC commandant in Kano, said in a statement that the suspects were arrested during a night patrol by men of the anti-vandalism unit.

Lawal-Falala said two suspects, Adnan Umar (26) and Musa Shuayb (24), were caught vandalising streetlight armoured cables on IBB way, Fagge/Kofar Wambai new market.

He added that the suspects were also attempting to steal three rolls of copper wire.

The commandant said operatives also arrested three suspected motorcycle thieves, including a receiver of stolen items during a raid.

He identified them as Saminu Magaji (19), Haruna Idris (22), and Ahmed Abubakar (38), the receiver, adding that two other suspects are still at large.

He said the suspects, who hail from Gwammaja, Dala LGA of Kano, specialised in breaking into homes and stealing motorcycles and people’s belongings.

He said the suspects are being interrogated and would be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.
