NSCDC arrests four men for ‘raping minor, robbery’ in Benue

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) command in Benue says four persons have been arrested over alleged involvement in the rape of an 11-year-old girl, armed robbery and vandalism in the state.

NAN reports that Michael Ejelikwu,  spokesperson of the command, paraded the suspects on Monday in Makurdi, the state capital.

Ejelikwu said a 25-year-old man was arrested on January 25 for allegedly raping the minor.

He said the suspect was arrested while committing the act at Mbakumbur Peivi, Guma LGA of the state.

The NSCDC spokesperson said the medical examination conducted on the victim showed blood dots in her private part, adding that she also had a tear in the inner organ.

He said the suspect would be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons (NAPTIP) for prosecution.

He added that a 27-year-old man was also nabbed for allegedly committing theft, armed robbery and cheating.

The command spokesperson said the suspect belonged to a group of notorious criminals who have been terrorising residents of the state.

He said the suspect was arrested at Ankpa Quarters, Ugbokpo, Apa LGA of the state on February 5 while driving a stolen MF375 tractor to Kaduna.

He added that the command has commenced an  investigation into the case.

Ejelikwu said that the command was on the trail of persons stealing the assets of Benue and the country.
