NSCDC arrests three for ‘burglary, fraud’ in Kwara

The Kwara command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested three persons for alleged theft and fraud. 

Ayoola Shola, the command’s spokesperson, said detectives from the tracking unit arrested Ibrahim Wasiu, aged 31, in the Eyenkorin area of Ilorin.

Shola said the arrest followed a report from Mumini Kabir, a resident whose house had been burgled many times.

The spokesperson said Kabir claimed valuables, including a motorcycle, two android phones, a home theatre system, and other household goods, were stolen from his residence.

He added that after a thorough investigation, Wasiu was arrested and all the stolen items were recovered.

Soliu Jimoh, the second suspect aged 33, was arrested on June 30.

Jimoh was alleged to have stolen electric cables from a building under construction in the Gaa Ajanaku area of Ilorin.

Shola said wires and tools from previous operations were recovered from Jimoh. 

Ganiyu Yusuf Olalekan, aged 38, was also arrested for allegedly impersonating a senior employee of the ministry of finance and defrauding Ibrahim Mustapha of N4.5 million.

Shola said Olalekan portrayed himself as a senior employee of the ministry and a politician, while promising Mustapha three Hajj slots as payment.

“Upon investigation, it was discovered that the suspect is a scammer who deceived unsuspecting members of the public for financial gain,” the spokesperson added.

He said all the suspects confessed to their crimes and would be prosecuted upon the completion of investigation.

Umar Mohammed, Kwara NSCDC commandant, assured the public that the corps will not relent in its quest to combat criminal activities in the state.

Mohammed asked criminals to vacate the state, emphasising the corps’ commitment to ensuring a safe environment for law-abiding citizens.
