NSCDC arrests three in Zamfara for printing fake naira, dollar notes

The Zamfara command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested three persons in connection with fake currency worth N2 million.

While parading the suspects on Wednesday, Ikor Uche, the command’s public relations officer, said the suspects were arrested for being involved in printing, minting and circulating fake naira and US dollar notes to the public.

Uche said they were arrested in Gusau on April 3 while trying to pay for transport fare with a fake N1000 note.

A tricycle operator was said to have been able to identify the fake currency and raised the alarm, which led to the arrest of the culprits.

The NSCDC spokesperson said investigations revealed that Kamallu Sani, one of the suspects, has been in the business for a year.

Sani was said to have confessed that he was introduced to the business by one Ado Gurgu of Tsafe LGA in the state.

He said Gurgu introduced him to one Muazu Abdulkarim, who is said to be the supplier of the fake currency.

The operatives of the corps were said to have traced the supplier to Kwartarkwarshi village where the fake currency was found.

The sum of N60,000 in fake currency was discovered alongside $2,600 of fake notes.

The NSCDC spokesperson said Muhammad Muazu, the commandment, said the corps would continue to clamp down heavily on currency counterfeiters.
