The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says two persons have been arrested over alleged involvement in pipeline vandalisation in Imo.
Speaking with journalists at the end of the command’s senior management meeting on Tuesday, Mathew Ovye, NSCDC commandant in Imo, said the suspects were arrested in Ohaji/Egbema LGA following intelligence reports.
Ovye said the suspects identified as Paul Akunne and Lucky Chioma are aged 35 and 24 respectively.
He said the arrest was in tandem with the corps’ mandate to secure Nigeria’s critical assets.

“The Nigerian government means well for the masses but a few unrepentant elements want to sabotage the efforts of government,” he said.
“This is why the NSCDC has been out to protect the people and their valuables from unsuspecting vandals, criminals, and their sponsors.
“We must bring oil saboteurs to their knees and create an enabling environment that will allow genuine actors work to improve Nigeria’s internally generated revenue, especially now that petroleum subsidy has been removed.”

He urged senior officers of the command to uphold professionalism during and after the upcoming governorship election.
The governorship elections in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi are scheduled for November 11, 2023.
