NSCDC boss warns against ‘accidental discharge’ as officers complete arms training course

Ahmed Audi, commandant-general of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), says “accidental discharge” will not be tolerated under his watch.

The commandant said this on Wednesday at the passing-out parade of the basic arms training batch 8 of the corps, held at the NSCDC headquarters in Abuja.

Audi, in a statement signed by Olusola Odukoya, the corps spokesperson, said accidental discharge does not conform with the corps administrative manual, code of ethics and standard operating procedure.

He warned officers against violating the rules of engagement, adding that anyone involved in accidental discharge will face the music squarely.

“You can see it clearly that civil defence is re-awakened. Our action plan to rejig, revamp, rejuvenate, restructure and reposition the corps to an enviable position both at national and international arena is working and we will not relent in our efforts to continue to justify our existence,” he said.

While congratulating the batch 8 officers, he said the training and re-training of personnel is a mandate that would enhance productivity, build capacity and develop manpower for effective utilisation in harnessing potentials to guarantee internal security.

“The nation is passing through an asymmetric conflict which differs from the conventional war the country is used to,” he said.

“You will discover that bandits and terrorists do launch their attacks and retreat back to base after causing devastating and debilitating damages.

“We will, however, not be deterred. Rather, we will remain focused and continue to train our personnel as we also continue to collaborate with sister agencies in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria.”

Congratulating the officers on their success after undergoing eight weeks of “intensive and rigorous training”, Audi admonished the NSCDC personnel to go back to their various commands and be good ambassadors of the corps.
