The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano has inaugurated a special female squad to boost the security of schools in the state.
Speaking at the inauguration of the squad on Thursday, Muhammad Lawal-Falala, Kano NSCDC commandant, said the squad has been trained specifically on how to tackle banditry, rape and other criminal activities.
Lawal-Falala said females do not take the issue of rape lightly, noting that they are the best group to fight the menace.
He added that the female squad was first commissioned in 2022 at the corps national headquarters in Abuja by Ahmed Abubakar-Audi, the NSCDC commandant.

“After a comprehensive study was conducted nationwide, it was discovered that many schools were vulnerable, which made them prone to attack by terrorists and bandits,” NAN quoted Lawal-Falala as saying.
“The result of the research revealed that most schools in the country do not have security, either government or private security.”
He said the special squad would be deployed to primary and secondary schools, as well as tertiary institutions to ensure a safe learning environment in the state.

Lawal-Falala tasked members of the squad to uphold a high sense of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
He also urged women in the state to apply to join the NSCDC female squad when the portal for application is opened.
“It is an opportunity for you to join and assist women and children to ensure safety in schools,” he said.
