NSCDC raids ‘illegal refinery’ in Imo, recovers ‘95,000 litres’ of product

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says its operatives raided an “illegal refinery” in the Otulu community, Ohaji/Egbema LGA of Imo state. 

Babawale Afolabi, spokesperson of the NSCDC, who spoke in Abuja on Friday, said over 95,000 litres of illegally refined product were seized during the operation.

Afolabi said the operatives also found evidence of the refinery’s connection to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s (NNPC) oil mining lease 20. 

“We recovered additional equipment used in the illegal activity,” he said.

This included galvanized pipes, a generator, welding machines, filing machines, vandalized wellhead valves, pumping machines, and even electrolyte packs.”

He added that an investigation is underway to apprehend those behind the illegal refinery.
