NSE begins October on negative note

Market capitalisation on the Nigerian Stock Exchange closed in the negative on Tuesday, signalling a negative close on the first day of trading in October.

The bourse lost N294 billion to close at N12.17 trillion as against Friday’s closing price of N12.46 trillion.

All Share Index, which closed at 36,165.93 on Friday, lost 860 points to stand at 35,306.09.

Shares from the banking industry formed the majority of the top traded shares as FCMB, FBNH, Guaranty and Zenith Bank were the top four most traded shares.

Total led gainers on the bourse, gaining N4 to close at N235 as against the previous closing price of N231.

Guinness gained N3.49 to close at N98.5 as against Friday’s closing price of N95.01.

WAPCO closed at N52.02, gaining N1.34 to close at N50.68.

Zenith Bank and Stanbic gained N0.61 and N0.51 to close at N24.01 and N40.01 respectively. Nestle topped the decliners chart losing N5.11 to close at N1215 as against Friday’s closing price of N1220.11. NB and DANGCEM lost N3 and N2.99 to close at N162 and N212.99 respectively. FO lost N1.8 to close at N48.1 while PZ lost N1.27 to close at N24.23.

The market had hit a record high of N13 trillion on August 9, the first time since September 2014.
