NUJ lauds Uba Sani for settling N548m Endwell Scheme debt owed since 2021

The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has commended Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna, for remitting N548 million to the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Endwell scheme.

In a communique, the NUJ Kaduna state council said the payment followed the resolution of a dispute that had lingered between the union and the state government since 2021.

The communique was jointly signed by Ango Bally, chairman of the communique drafting committee; Emmanuel Agbo, the committee’s secretary; Maryam Suka, a committee member; and Gambo Sanga, secretary of the council.

The council praised Sani for recognising the impressive number of journalists appointed to his cabinet since he assumed office in 2023.

The council described Sani as a promoter of the rule of law and someone who respects the traditional institution.

“The Council also commended the Governor as a promoter of the rule of law and the constitution, with respect for traditional institution, following his reinstatement of the dethroned Chief of Piriga Chiefdom, Chief Jonathan Pharaguwa Zamuna, in compliance with the judgment of the National Industrial Court that nullified his dethronement by the past administration of Governor Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai, and also complied with all the judgment terms, including the payment of ten million Naira damages, his salary, and other entitlements,” the communique reads.

“The Council commended the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, for collaborative efforts with the governor of Kaduna state in restoring peace in most vulnerable areas in Kaduna state: Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Zangon Kataf, and Chikun LGAs.”

The council also congratulated the governor on his conferment of the Governor of the Year award by THISDAY.

NUJ, however, expressed serious concern over the recent renewed attacks in some parts of the state, particularly in Kauru, Sanga, Kajuru, and Kachia LGAs, and commiserated with the victims of the attacks.
