Francis Nwifuru, governor of Ebonyi has condemned the recent attack on residents of Amegu Nkalaha community in Ishielu LGA of the state.
On Sunday, suspected armed herdsmen invaded the community in what is believed to be a reprisal attack over the killing of their cows.
The suspects were said to have killed at least 10 persons and burnt down some some houses in the area.
Joshua Ukandu, the police spokesperson in the state, told TheCable on Sunday that security operatives were mobilised to the area to restore calm.

A statement issued by Monday Uzor, the governor’s chief press secretary, he said the attack was a “flagrant disregard to the sanctity of human life”.
“I am saddened to learn about the attack on the people of Nkalaha of Ishielu local government areas which led to the death of innocent citizens of the State. The attack is a flagrant disregard to the sanctity of human life,” the statement reads.
The governor expressed worry over the “incessant” attack in the area, noting that the people of Ebonyi are peaceful people.

The governor urged residents to remain calm, adding that he will ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice, and peace is restored to the state.
“The attack which is not the first in the area is worrisome and a source of concern to the government and people of the state,” he said.
“However, as a government that is determined to secure our people by protecting lives and property, we shall take decisive steps to unravel the circumstances behind the attack.”
