Francis Nwifuru, newly sworn in governor of Ebonyi state, has sacked political office holders appointed by David Umahi, his predecessor and ‘godfather’.

The information was contained in a statement signed by Monday Uzor, chief press secretary to the governor.

Nwifuru said the termination is “with immediate effect”.

“The affected appointees are to hand over all government properties in their possession to the most senior civil servants in their respective ministries, departments and agencies,” Nwifuru declared.

According to the statement, the governor expressed his appreciation to the appointees for their efforts in the development of the state and wished them well.

Nwifuru also said permanent secretaries and political office holders in the civil service commission, judicial commission, Ebonyi electoral commission and the anti-corruption/public complaint commission, are exempt from the purge.

Nwifuru is a political ally of Umahi, who was instrumental to his governorship election victory on the platform of the APC.
