The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has congratulated Ayodele Olawande on his appointment as minister of youth development.

On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu rejigged his cabinet. Before his new role, Olawande was the minister of state for youth development.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Sara-Igbe Sukubo, NYCN president, asked Olawande to “effect meaningful change and drive youth empowerment initiatives across the nation”.

Sukubo urged Olawande to carry out his work with “vigour and dedication”, adding that youths are “eager for transformative policies that prioritize skill acquisition, entrepreneurship, and empowerment”.

“We are confident that your visionary leadership will spearhead initiatives that not only address the immediate needs of our young population but also lay a strong foundation for sustainable development,” the statement reads.

“The challenges confronting Nigerian youth are multifaceted and require a robust response. High unemployment rates, inadequate access to quality education, and limited opportunities for skill development are just a few of the obstacles that need urgent attention.

“We call on Hon. Wisdom to prioritize these issues and work tirelessly to create programs that enhance vocational training, promote entrepreneurship, and provide our youth with the tools they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

“Additionally, we urge him to foster collaborations with private sector stakeholders, educational institutions, and non-governmental organizations.

“Such partnerships will amplify the reach and effectiveness of youth-focused programs, ensuring that no young person is left behind in the quest for development and opportunity.”

The NYCN expressed its readiness to support the minister.

“Our network is vast and our commitment to empowering youth across Nigeria is resolute. We encourage all Nigerian youths to rally behind the newly appointed Minister, the Federal Government, and all leaders in positions of power,” Sukubo said.

“Together, we can address the challenges confronting our generation, transforming them into opportunities for growth and success.

“We also call on the youth to actively engage with Hon. Wisdom and his ministry, providing feedback, sharing ideas, and participating in discussions that shape policies affecting their lives.

“This collaborative spirit is crucial in ensuring that the voices of Nigerian youths are heard and considered in decision-making processes.”

The NYCN added that with Olawande on the saddle, youths would remain optimistic.
