Obanikoro: Obasanjo backing GMB ‘meaningless’

Musiliu Obanikoro, former minister of state for defence, says the endorsement of Muhammadu Buhari, APC’s presidential candidate, by former President Olusegun Obasanjo is meaningless.

Accusing Obasanjo of attempting to subvert democratic processes through his third term bid, Obanikoro urged Nigerians to disregard Obasanjo’s action.

During the launch of his controversial autobiography, My Watch, in Nairobi, Kenya on Tuesday, Obasanjo publicly threw his weight behind Buhari.

““The circumstances [Buhari] will be working under if he wins the election are different from the one he worked under before, where he was both the executive and the legislature – he knows that,” he said.

“It’s a question of leadership – political and military. He’s smart enough. He’s educated enough. He’s experienced enough. Why shouldn’t I support him?”

However Obanikoro took to Twitter to express his disgust over the issue.

“Obasanjo’s endorsement of Buhari is meaningless in Yorubaland and should be treated as such across Nigeria,” he wrote.

“Nigerians have not forgotten how Obasanjo subverted the democratic process with his failed third term agenda.”

Similarly, Doyin Okupe, special assistant to the president on public affairs, reacted by saying Obasanjo is not God.

“Someone was reported to have said a new government will be installed on the 29th of May 2015,” he wrote on Facebook.

“Lamentations 3 vs 37 says who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass when the Lord commandeth it not? Isaiah 7 vs 7 says thus sayeth the Lord God, it shall not stand neither shall it come to pass.”
