Obasanjo: If Americans can vote for Trump, it shows they are human too

Ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo says if America can vote Donald Trump as US president it shows that they are as human “as we are”.

Trump defeated popular choice Hillary Clinton in the November 2016 presidential election.

According to NAN, Obasanjo made the comment at the launch of the French version of a book, ‘Making Africa Work’, at the French embassy in Pretoria.

The book is written by is authored by Greg Mills, Jeffrey Herbst, Obasanjo and Dickie Davis.

He said Trump emerged so that America could be humbled and a lesson should be learnt there.

‘‘The fact that America can produce a Trump in this day and age, it means Americans are as human as we are,” the former president said.

“I am not justifying what African leaders are doing. If our leaders are doing wrong, we should say that they are doing wrong. Trump has come so that America can be humbled, and we can also learn that lesson.”

The former president first governed Nigeria between 1976 and 1979 and later as a civilian leader between 1999 and 2007.

Obasanjo, who was a two-term president on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is a regular election observer in Africa.
