Obasanjo prostrates to honour new Olowu of Owu

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Monday, received Saka Matemilola Adelola, the new Olowu of Owu, at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun state.

Obasanjo, who is the Balogun of Owu, received the new monarch alongside Owu indigenes and other kingmakers at his Ita-Eko residence in Abeokuta north LGA.

According to Premium Times, the ex-president prostrated before the Olowu designate to welcome him.

From Obasanjo’s residence, the Olowu-designate was led to the palace of Adedotun Gbadebo, Alake of Egbaland, for a courtesy visit, and thereafter, taken to Oke-Ago Owu to begin his seclusion as part of the process for his coronation.

Obasanjo thanked the state government for approving Metemilola’s selection as the new Olowu and assured the monarch of the support of the people and a peaceful reign.

“In our history, this is the first time a new king will be filling a vacant seat within a short period. We have to preserve our culture. Culture is the totality of our existence, and we must not allow it to go into extinction,” he said.

“We (kingmakers) did what we are supposed to do. The state government approved his appointment.

“I want to assure you (Matemilola) of my unalloyed support and the support of the entire sons and daughters of Owu kingdom in your journey as the new Olowu of Owu kingdom.”

The Olowu stool became vacant following the demise of the late Adegboyega Dosumu, who died on December 12, 2021.
