Obasanjo ‘visits’ first lady — days after reportedly wearing cap with Tinubu’s emblem

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo paid a visit to Oluremi Tinubu, the first lady, on the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, according to her aide.

Obasanjo visited the first lady in Lagos on Monday.

Busola Kukoyi, media aide to the first lady, shared the picture of Oluremi and Obasanjo in a post published on X.

“Former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and the First Lady of the Federal of Nigeria Senator Oluremi Tinubu after receiving the Former President who came felicitating on the Sallah Celebration on Monday 17th June,” Kokoyi wrote on X.

The visit comes days after the former president was seen at an event wearing a cap with embroidery looking like the emblem that is usually on Tinubu’s cap.

The development elicited varied reactions, as some Nigerians wondered if Obasanjo had switched to supporting Tinubu.

In the build-up to the 2023 election, Obasanjo endorsed Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), for the number one seat in the country.

Tinubu visited the former president during the campaign, but Obasanjo did not declare support for the ex-governor of Lagos’ presidential ambitions.
