Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo, has dissolved the state executive council with immediate effect.

Obaseki gave the order on Wednesday, through a statement signed by Crusoe Osagie, his special adviser on media projects.

According to the statement, the dissolution took place during the weekly executive council meeting.

The governor also asked that all special assistants and senior special assistants be relieved of their appointments.

Obaseki appreciated members of the council for their service to the government and the people of the state.

The reason for the dissolution was not revealed in the statement.

However, last year, Obaseki approved a restructuring that reduced the number of government ministries, departments, and agencies(MDAs) by over 31 percent.

Andrew Emwanta, the commissioner for communication and orientation, said the measure was to cut wastage in government and eliminate duplication of functions.

The state government had cut the number of ministries from 22 to 18.

Also, MDAs were reduced from 105 to 72.

The gubernatorial election in the state will hold in 2024.
