Obaseki: PDP will choose its guber candidate… my vote won’t decide it

Godwin Obaseki Godwin Obaseki

Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo, says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has the sole right to choose its flag bearer for the state governorship election.

Obaseki spoke when he visited Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi state, on Thursday.

Philip Shaibu, his deputy, announced his intention to run for the Edo governorship election on Monday.

Commenting on the development, Obaseki described his relationship with Shaibu as cordial.

He said Shaibu has the constitutional right to run for the office of the Edo governor, adding that he does not think his vote would determine who would win the party’s ticket.

“He wants to run for the office and he is free to do so and you know as a Nigerian, he has the constitutional right to run and nobody can or should stop him,” Obaseki said.

“The party will decide and also the members of the party will decide who will be the flag bearer of our party in the forthcoming general election in Edo.

“I’m only one out of the millions party members in Edo and I don’t think my vote would determine whether he becomes the flag bearer or not.”

Obaseki said his visit to Bauchi was also to discuss some pertinent issues relating to the PDP Governors Forum among other matters affecting Nigeria.

Acknowledging that Nigerians are suffering, Obaseki said it was time for leaders to stop lamenting but to confront and find solutions to the problems bedeviling the country.
