Obaseki’s ADC collapses during inauguration

A security aide to Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo, collapsed on Thursday afternoon during the swearing-in ceremony to usher in a second term for the present administration in the state.

The incident took place at a few minutes before 1pm, while the governor was reading his inaugural speech.

Obaseki took the oath for a second term in office on Thursday alongside Philip Shaibu, his deputy.

The event held at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin City, the Edo capital.

The governor was rounding off his address at about 12:56pm, when the yet-to-be-identified aide-de-camp, who was standing behind Obaseki, appeared to jerk repeatedly, before he collapsed.

The aide was fully dressed in uniform, and he also wore a face mask and white hand gloves.

He was quickly attended to by other government officials who were nearby, while Obaseki, who seemed not to have initially noticed that anything was amiss, went on to conclude his speech.

On his way down from the podium after delivering his address, Obaseki looked behind briefly, before he left the vicinity in the company of other security escorts.

The ADC, however, appeared to have stayed back on the podium as he wasn’t behind Obaseki when the governor left the platform after presenting his address.
