Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), says he confronted the All Progressives Congress (APC) on why Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo wasn’t chosen ahead of Bola Tinubu as the candidate of the party in the election.

Speaking on Tuesday in London when he attended the 63rd birthday celebration of Dele Momodu, publisher of the Ovation magazine, Obi said Bola Tinubu, president-elect, would have been a great candidate if he had contested 20 years ago.

“I am interested to see Nigeria work, I don’t hide it any day, anytime,” Obi said.

“I even confronted APC, asking why didn’t you bring Osinbajo, let’s have the place working for everybody, so that we have people who want to work for the country and are healthy and good.”

In June 2022, Bola Tinubu, former governor of Lagos state, won the presidential primary election of the APC.

He polled 1,271 votes to defeat 13 other presidential hopefuls, including Osinbajo in the election.

Rotimi Amaechi, former minister of transportation, polled 316 votes while the Vice-President got 235 votes.

Meanwhile, on March 1, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), announced Tinubu, as the winner of the presidential election.

Announcing the results, Mahmood Yakubu, INEC chairman, said Tinubu secured 8,794,726 votes.

Atiku Abubakar of the P’eoples Democratic Party (PDP) had the second-highest figure with 6,984,520 votes, while Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) was next with 6,101,533 v”
