Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has met with Bala Mohammed, chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum.
The meeting, held at Ramat House in Bauchi state on Thursday, has fuelled speculation over potential political realignments ahead of the 2027 general election.
Details of their discussions remain unclear, but Mohammed, who governs Bauchi state, is expected to brief journalists alongside Obi afterwards.
Their meeting comes amid growing talks of a coalition aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election.

Obi, a former governor of Anambra state, resigned from the PDP in 2022, citing internal party issues, and went on to contest the presidency under the LP, securing 6,101,533 votes and finishing third. His campaign drew significant support, particularly among young voters.
In June 2024, Umar Damagum, acting national chairman of the PDP, said the party wants Obi to return to its fold.
While Obi has not confirmed any move, he, however, said he is open to the idea of a coalition —but only one focused on governance rather than simply seizing power.

On Wednesday, Daniel Bwala, special adviser to President Bola Tinubu on media and policy, claimed that Obi will soon leave the LP and join the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
Earlier this week, Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna, announced his departure from the APC, citing “conflicting values” with the ruling party.
The former governor had also said he would work to unite opposition leaders against the APC in future elections.
