Yunusa Tanko, national coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, says Peter Obi, ex-presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), remains a committed member of the party.
Tanko spoke on Monday when he featured on ‘The Morning Brief’, a programme on Channels Television.
His comments came as a counter-reaction to claims by Adewole Adebayo, the 2023 SDP presidential candidate, who said Obi’s allies are negotiating with his party over a possible defection.
Tanko added that LP leaders will soon clarify their stance to Nigerians, following the supreme court judgment on the party’s leadership crisis.

“As far as I am concerned, His Excellency, Peter Obi, is a member of the Labour Party. It remains so until there is any other thing that may come up,” Tanko said.
“As I speak to you right now, there is going to be a meeting—possibly within the week—by the leaders of the party to make fundamental positions clear to everyone. I think it’s in line with the position of the Supreme Court ruling and that, of course, will put the whole matter to rest.”
The LP has been embroiled in a leadership crisis that has polarised the party into factions.

Last week, the supreme court nullified an appeal court verdict that recognised Julius Abure as the LP national chairman.
Subsequently, Nenadi Usman, chairman of the LP caretaker committee, backed by Obi and Alex Otti, governor of Abia, commended the judgement.
The LP house of representatives caucus also hailed the judgement, describing it as a “tonic and elixir” for the party’s “stability and reinvention”.
