Peter Obi
The Forum of Economic Rights Activists (FERA) has expressed reservations over remarks by Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in 2023 about President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In recent interviews, Obi criticised Tinubu’s administration, claiming that the nation’s democracy is collapsing under his watch.
The former Anambra governor also criticised Tinubu over the “ineffectiveness” of his economic policies.
In a statement issued on Friday, Moses Okino, the group president, disagreed with Obi’s assessment of the current administration’s economic efforts.

Okino argued that Obi’s remarks did not accurately reflect the outcomes of ongoing reforms, particularly regarding the removal of petrol subsidies, which he noted is a key step in addressing systemic economic issues.
He also carpeted Obi for his stance on anti-corruption efforts, maintaining that progress has been made in areas the former governor criticised.
He dismissed Obi’s criticism as “amateurish” and “dishonest,” accusing him of deliberately distorting facts to fit his own narrative.

The group’s president urged Nigerians to critically evaluate political narratives and history as the country looks ahead to the 2027 general election.
“It is important for the electorate to make informed decisions based on a thorough understanding of both past leadership records and current political rhetoric,” the statement reads.
“Our counsel to those who still believe the rants of the Labour Party’s candidate is for them to step back and critically assess the situation.”
Okino urged politicians to “engage constructively and transparently” with the public as the nation continues to navigate its political and economic challenges.
