Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra state, has urged pupils to focus on their education, as that is the greatest weapon to liberate them from ignorance and also prepare them for life ahead.
He said this while celebrating with pupils of Girls Secondary School, Agulu, Anambra state and Christ the King College, Ijebu Ode, Ogun state at events to mark “My freedom day”, an annual event initiated by CNN.
The event celebrated on March 14 is meant to sensitise students on the importance of education as a veritable vehicle to fight slavery.
In his separate addresses at the schools, Obi said the anti-social and grievous ills taking place in the society today is borne out of lack of functional education that would have taught those engaging in such that it is suicidal destroying one’s society.

While he urged the pupils to remember the abducted Chibok and Dapchi school girls in their prayers, Obi also called on them to be of good behaviour and choose reputable men with track record of achievements and decency in both public and private lives as role models.
The former governor presented a sum of N1 million naira cheques each to the two schools to support them in their infrastructural improvement.
