Obiora Okonkwo: APC will win Anambra guber election — south-east needs to align with ruling party

Obiora Okonkwo, the founder and chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, says the All Progressives Congress (APC) will win the Anambra governorship election.

Okonkwo spoke on Tuesday when he submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.

The governorship hopeful said for states in the south-east to achieve comparable developmental progress, they need to align with the ruling party.

“I want to tell you that after praying and seeking God’s face, we have successfully submitted the completed forms,” Okonkwo said.

“We have no doubt that we have entered another phase of the race and that we will be declared the winner after the primaries by God’s grace.

“Yes, power belongs to God, and having submitted the forms, I totally submit to the will of God. We will bring the state and the south-east into the APC fold.

“That campaign will not only bring victory to APC, but we will also win Anambra people for APC. It would help to bring more people from the south-east to APC.

“And for that reason, we will help not only to win the election but to do good work that would clean up the face of our party in Anambra state in particular and south-east by extension.

“And by so doing, enshrine the legacy of President Tinubu within his first tenure in office. And would make it so easy in 2027; the story of APC in Anambra would be a different story.

“I am the only aspirant coming from Anambra central, the zone where AC and ACN held sway before the party transmuted into APC. Returning to APC is a homecoming for me and I am happy to be home.

“God made it possible for AC and ACN to win elections in Anambra central then, using me and other men of goodwill to actualise them.

“I hope to lead the campaign and be on the ballot paper. We already have the advantage, and with the support of the party and God almighty, APC will win the Anambra state governorship election.”

The governorship aspirant dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu would back the re-election bid of Chukwuma Soludo, governor of Anambra, for allegedly working for him during the 2023 elections.

Okonkwo added that Tinubu is a loyal party member who will not engage in any activity that would sabotage the APC.
