Ighalo, Moses earn sides win

A double from Odion Ighalo has helped Watford to a 2-1 away victory over Newcastle United.

The Super Eagles forward put his side ahead after just nine minutes with a strike placed between the legs of Daryl Janmaat.

Papiss Cisse missed a good chance to equalise for the hosts as his effort flashed wide before Moussa Sissoko also missed a decent opportunity later.

Ighalo continued to look dangerous, as the striker tested Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul, before rounding the Dutchman minutes later to score his fourth goal of the season.

After the break, the hosts began to take control of the match, as Thauvin had a shot blocked before Sissoko headed wide from a Janmaat cross.

Newcastle pulled a goal back on 62 minutes through Janmaat, who ran into the box before beating Gomes with a cool finish.

The Dutch defender almost scored a second goal moments later, as Gomes produced a stunning save to keep out a decent strike.

The hosts missed two opportunities to equalise soon after, as Siem de Jong headed wide from a Janmaat cross, before Thauvin flashed a shot wide.

Ighalo now has 20 goals from 24 matches in 2015.

At the Etihad, Victor Moses drilled in his first West Ham goal with a low 20-yard shot which crept inside Joe Hart’s left-hand post as Manchester City missed the chance to move six points clear at the top of the Premier League.

The visitors doubled their lead when Diafra Sakho hooked in from six yards.
