Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University in Anambra state has conferred the honorary doctorate degree of doctor of laws (LL.D.) on Kingsley Moghalu, a professor and former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Fidelis Okafor, vice-chancellor of the institution, conferred the honour on Moghalu at the university’s 8th convocation ceremony, which held on Friday.
The university said it decided to honour Moghalu in recognition of his achievements in academia and scholarship.
“His statesmanship, and his contributions to Nigeria’s economic development, particularly in the banking sector during his service as Deputy Governor of the CBN, and to the Nigerian society at large through his excellent leadership qualities,” read part of the honoree’s citation.

Moghalu served as deputy governor of the CBN from 2009 to 2014 and was the head of the financial system stability (FSS) directorate that implemented the apex bank’s extensive reform of the banking sector under Sanusi Lamido, former governor of the bank.
After he completed his five-year tenure at the CBN, he was appointed professor of practice in International Business and Public Policy at Tufts University, one of the premier universities in the United States, in 2015.
He is a philanthropist, and the founder of the Isaac Moghalu Foundation, a non-profit organisation that supports access to education, literacy and skills development for indigent youth in rural communities in Nigeria.
Moghalu has received several national and international honors, including the Nigerian national honor of the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

A very well deserved recognition of a rare gem and a distinguished Nigerian. Our universities should recognise people like this with real leadership qualities and not just money bags that they hope will donate to them. Kudos to the Vice Chancellor of the Ojukwu University (Anambra STATE University, renamed after the great Ikemba).
