Officer injured as police arrest seven ‘thugs’ during clash in Kano

The police command in Kano says seven suspects were arrested on Tuesday after a clash between rival groups in the Yakasai municipal area of the city.  

Haruna Abdullahi, the spokesperson of the command, told TheCable, that no police officer was killed during the incident, contrary to some reports.

He added that an officer who was injured had been attended to at a hospital.

“None of our officers was killed. An officer was wounded during the incident and was swiftly taken to the hospital for treatment,” he said.

“Following the incident, the command has arrested seven of the suspects who we believed were parts of the thugs that orchestrated the violence. We will make sure that the case sees a concluding end.”

According to a witness, the incident occurred when a suspected thug, who alighted from a tricycle at the Murtala Muhammad specialist hospital, was attacked by a rival gang.

He said the thugs were throwing stones at the police officers who came to restore normalcy during the clash.

“It took minutes before the intervention of the police who were unable to disperse them. The thugs turned towards the police and started throwing stones at them,” he said.

“It is when the police vehicle zoomed off from attack and possible damage that the policeman fell on the ground and they trampled upon him.”
