Ogun allocates land to navy for construction of operating base

Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun, has allocated 100 hectares of land to the Nigerian Navy for the construction of a forward operating base (FOB) in the state.

The governor said the naval facility would be established at Olokola Free Trade Zone in the Ogun Waterside LGA of the state.

He said the facility would protect some strategic investments and safeguard the sovereignty of Nigeria at Tongeji Island, in the Ipokia LGA of the state.

In a statement on Tuesday, Bello Matawalle, minister of state for defence, commended the governor for the gesture.

Matawalle said that the donation reflects a “strong commitment” to the country’s security and development.

The former governor of Zamfara said the move will enhance the Nigerian Navy’s operational capability, “fortify” the country’s defence framework in the south-west zone and bolster the national security infrastructure.

The minister asked state governments to follow Abiodun’s lead in partnering with the armed forces to tackle insecurity and ensure a peaceful country.
