The Ijebu north-east LGA of Ogun state has disowned a trending banner listing the second-year achievements of Folusho Badejo, the council chairperson.

In a statement on Sunday, John Olufunmilayo, the LGA’s information department director, said the banner did not “emanate from the hierarchy of the local government administration”.

Olufunmilayo said the banner — with July 26, 2023, as the celebration date— was designed to tarnish the good image of the LGA boss.

“The banner was mounted by these evil-minded individuals to turn the people against the person of the Chairman and perhaps, to score cheap political points,” the statement reads.

“The Chairman and his team will reel out projects that have been embarked upon and completed by the administration soon.

“In lieu of these, we hereby advise the general public  and  all the sons and daughters of our great local government to ignore this banner as it is being sponsored in totality.”

On the poster, the council administration purportedly stated that in Badejo’s two years in office, he purchased a new computer set for the use of the admin department, rehabilitated a Nissan car, purchased a new official phone for his office, and redesigned and printed letter-headed papers.

The LGA administration added that Badejo also painted the secretariat, replaced his official conference hall tables and chairs, replaced the electricity pole on the premises and repaired a pumping machine.

Other achievements listed include: “Sinking of the borehole at Imewuro community, selection of a day chairman through year 2023 children’s day celebration, distribution of sports equipment to schools across the LGA, grading of roads across the LGA, Ogidi Junction culvert under construction, Ilese-Aledo road under construction, hosting of JSMC for junior staff and councillors retreat”.

‘LOW-KEY CELEBRATION’

TheCable’s check on the Ijebu north-east LGA Facebook page showed that the same trending list was posted by one of the group’s administrators on July 26, 2023, with the headline: “Second Year celebration of Hon Folusho in a low key”.

In the statement signed by the LGA’s information department director, the second year anniversary was branded as modest.

The check showed that the same ‘projects’ stated in the trending banner were listed as Badejo’s achievements in the statement.

Also, the date written on the said banner was the same day the statement was posted on the LGA’s official Facebook page.
