Ogun monarch: Life is about service to humanity… people should enjoy basic things

Kayode Ogungbohun, the Agbaigba of Ijake-Oke in Yewa north LGA of Ogun state, says a “life without service is a life without a purpose”.

Speaking at his palace on Friday, Ogungbohun said he found the community in need of progress and development and resolved to use his status and influence to make a difference.

“I grew up with the mindset that everyone cannot and would not be a millionaire, but everyone should live a decent life by being exposed to enjoying basic things,” he said.

“I have two NGOs, the Abraham Ajibode Ogungbohun Foundation and the Oba Kayode Ogungbohun Noble Heritage Foundation.

“So, running both organisations imposes higher responsibility on me, in addition to my role as the king.”

The monarch said the palace should be a house of service to the people, adding that his major concern after he ascended the throne was to provide running water for the people.

“It was unacceptable to me that in the 21st century, my people would be going to get drinking water at the Yewa River,” he said.

“Some of them believe it is communalism to go to the river, but I looked more at the health implications and the effect on the community as a public health person and a registered nurse who has practised in Nigeria and abroad. So I made an effort to install boreholes for their use.

“My thinking is that I can try to exert my effort first so that the government can be attracted by what is on the ground to do the needful.”

Before becoming a king, Ogungbohun worked at Critical Rescue International, Ikeja; Wibross Offshore Nigeria Limited, Port Harcourt; Chevron Nigeria Limited; and Abu Dhabi National Oil Refinery.
