Ogun secures order restraining protesters to three stadiums, school on October 1

Protest against economic hardship in August

The Ogun state government has secured a court order restricting those who wish to participate in the planned protest on October 1 to four venues in the state.

They are the MKO Abiola stadium in Abeokuta, Gateway International stadium in Sagamu, Dipo Dina stadium in Ijebu Ode and the Ansar-Ud-Deen comprehensive high school in Ota.

Tajudeen Okunsokan, the judge at the Ogun high court, granted the restriction order on Monday while ruling on an ex parte application filed by Oluwasina Ogungbade, the state’s attorney-general.

Respondents in the suit marked AB/667/2024 are Afolabi Adeboye, Ifemosu Michael, Lekan Soneye, Bestman Okereafor, Francis Adeyanju, and Thomas Kehinde.

Others are Yinka Folarin, Nicholas Eko, Koyejo Morenikeji, persons unknown, and the Ogun state commissioner of police.

The court ordered the protesters not to converge in any part of the state except the designated venues between 8 am and 5 pm.

It directed the state’s commissioner of police to ensure the enforcement of the ruling which is expected to run for seven days.

“The 1st – 12th respondents are hereby restrained from holding the proposed public protest scheduled for/from 1st October 2024 under the #FearlessInOcotber slogan or any slogan whatsoever during that period except by converging between 8 am and 5 pm at the following places,” the court order reads.
