Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to Ikedi Ohakim, former governor of Imo state, has described the allegations of harassment and cybercrime against his client as “trumped-up” charges.

On Thursday, TheCable had reported that the former governor, alongside one Chinedu Okpareke, will be arraigned on February 15 before Taiwo Taiwo, a federal high court judge, on a five-count charge preferred against them by the inspector-general of police (IGP).

According to the charge sheet seen by TheCable, the former governor and his co-accused were said to have threatened to release the nude photograph of one Chinyere Amuchienwa, if she fails to drop the charges of attempted kidnap against them.

However, in a statement on Friday, Ejimakor said his client is yet to be served a hearing notice regarding the charges.

“We go on record to state that the so-called charges they are circulating in the media are trumped-up, as they were neither served on Dr Ohakim, nor any hearing notice served in regard to any arraignment,” he said.

“The calculated leakage of these spurious charges to the media appears to be deliberately aimed at further injuring Dr Ohakim’s reputation.

“To be sure, vigorous and firm steps are presently being taken in the proper fora to ensure that those involved in this sordid saga are promptly brought to account.

“In the interim, members of the public are advised to completely ignore the said media reports as a tissue of lies.”
