Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, an Igbo socio-cultural organisation, says insecurity in the south-east is a major hindrance to the development of the region.
In a communique issued at the end of its retreat on Wednesday, with the theme ‘Ako Bu Ije’, the organisation urged south-east governors and security operatives to intensify efforts to end insecurity in the region.
Ohanaeze added that providing security would unlock the massive potential in the south-east, especially in agriculture.
The retreat also emphasised the ability of the Ndigbo to produce enough food, adding that governors of the region should support this goal while maintaining strict security in the area, to win over potential investors.

It noted that Ndigbo had enormous human and natural resources to initiate a “made-to-fit” regional development agenda that aligns with the current global reality.
The retreat also resolved to intensify its drive for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB).
The communique was signed by Okey Emuchay, national secretary of the organisation; and Alex Ogbonnia, national publicity secretary.
