Okafor faction endorses Akpata for Edo guber, says LP crisis will soon be over

The faction of the Labour Party (LP) led by Callistus Okafor has thrown its weight behind Olumide Akpata, the party’s candidate in the Edo governorship election.

In a statement on Thursday, Okafor said the people of Edo should vote for LP because it is the only party that has solutions to their problems.

He said the party is “one indivisible entity” despite its internal crisis.

“The situation in the country and Edo state in particular calls for a massive shift from what we are used to doing to a different phase,” Okafor said.

“The only party that guarantees sustainable solutions for our people’s problems is the labour party.

“I therefore call on all Edo people to step out en masse on Saturday 21st September 2024 and vote for the Labour Party candidate Barrister Olumide Akpata.

“A new Edo is possible.The Labour Party remains one indivisible entity, irrespective of the internal crisis now, which will be resolved soon.

“Together we shall win and start to change the state for the good of the people.”

The governorship election will take place on Saturday.

The party is currently embroiled in a leadership crisis.

Apart from Okafor, Julius Abure and Nenadi Usman, national chair of the party’s caretaker committee, have all claimed to be authentic leaders of the LP.
