Okorocha says hunger ‘is the cause of terrorism’

Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha is scared that Nigeria’s terrorism challenge has reached such intolerable level that one can almost say that the country is at war.

According to Okorocha, who was speaking on Monday at the Progressive Governors Forum in Kano State, the solution can only come when  government provides its citizens with quality education.

The forum, which is second in its series and is themed ‘Crisis in Nigeria’s Education Sector: Addressing the Connect between Unemployment and Insecurity, was attended by all governors of states controlled by the ALl Progressives Congress (APC), as well as Muhammadu Buhari, a former head of state; Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president.

“Terrorism is an ill wind that has blown into the country and has, no doubt, tainted the nation’s pride,” Okorocha said.

“It is a result of hunger and unemployment. Hunger is a major problem, which is a product of unemployment; and when there is hunger, crisis is inevitable.’

The governor also urged Nigerians to desist from politicising the challenges of the country; and also to eschew the blame game, bury their differences, and unite as one family to fight the common enemy.
